At their best they are very beautiful for their colour and physicality. There is also a lyrical nature to his works and on closer inspection there is much going on, a kind of all-over painting displaying gems within. He can also pull it of on a very large scale. Along with other painters of the New New group, Lerner’s pictures are among the best I’ve seen of recent times.
