The idea that Cattelan is subversive – “flipping the Bird to the art establishment” is deeply, grotesquely absurd. The Guuggenheim IS the art establishment as are you dear commentators on Art Critical. As a sculptor friend of mine said the interest in Cattelan is that he has perhaps given the art world a black eye, but by and large, as your fellow commentators make so clear, they don’t realize it – they think they’re wearing mascara.
