Dear David,
Danese just sent me a copy of your Connie Fox review at it is deservingly incisive. Fox is a real painters’ painter. Her compositions are the result of stalemating herself into the last possible move that avoids habit or expectation. Whether she resolves with a singular dynamic image, or more frequently, a field of peppered interests all submissive to the atmosphere of the larger vision her work is always a reliable artifact of thorough and honest construction. In an age of MFA trained automatons, who at best manifest the “idea” of variation and contrast I find her work to be the necessary product of a refreshingly candid interior observation. She is “fearless” in the sense that we can only expect of our best painters. I really enjoyed seeing your piece and I congratulate you (as I do frequently) not only on your choice of exhibition but on the accuracy of your analysis. With my best regards,
Archie
