The artcritical Prize: Laura Karetzky

Laura Karetzky’s painting, Toast (2019), is a fitting image of seasonal cheer for this strangest of years lived vicariously through screens. A family huddled around a Hanukkah menorah, illuminated by the glow of its candles, is snapped on a phone that is itself captured in the reflection. Karetzky’s painting “hung” this summer in the virtual 2020 New York Studio School Alumni Exhibition where it was judged the winner of the annual artcritical prize, which takes the form of a feature article in our pages. Karetzky has agreed to a live Zoom interview with me to which everyone is invited, to take place January 26 at 6pm.
