ARTCRITICAL PICK: Five Painters at Jack Hanley Gallery

by

Stop by Jack Hanley’s Broome Street gallery to see new work by five bright young painters: Tisch Abelow, Ariel Dill, Matthew Fischer, Heather Guertin, and Heidi Hahn. A jazzy (saxophones!)  tropical, tripped-out vibe hops from canvas to canvas. Faces, sexy body parts, flowers, and sweet cottages emerge from Hahn’s painting clusters. Dill’s paintings also have a quasi-1920s inventiveness to them that are best articulated the larger she works. Echoes of lush blue-green-orange (Gauguin in Tahiti?) in Fischer’s paintings remind us that there is a story behind every move. And Guertin’s light touch profiles are as quick and honest as a note drawn in frost on a car window.
