The Salon: Art + Design is the latest fair at Park Avenue Armory, following hot on the footsteps of last weekend’s Print Fair. Bringing “50+ exhibitors from around the world exhibiting the finest of 20th century and contemporary art and design from 1890 to the present along with major works of ethnographic art and antiquities”, the event includes a solo spot for contemporary painter Ena Swansea at Friedman Benda. When a few years ago she joined this gallery with a special interest in the decorative arts, she did so on condition that she could collaborate with them on a long-cherished furniture idea she had. Her serpentine Night and Day Reversible Sofa has reversible cushions in sumptuous synthetic white fur on the daylight recto, somewhat kinky in purity but nonetheless contrastive with the prints photographed from details of her own paintings on the verso. A long-running penchant for liquid graphite grounds makes her images naturals for the nocturnal. DAVID COHEN
