During the summer I often like to read anthologies, whether fiction or non-fiction. It’s nice, in all that leisure time, to be able to skip around, and to pick up and put down whatever I’m looking at. Perhaps that’s the same impulse from which the summer group show derives. Peter Freeman’s got a great one right now, an anthologized variety, with conceptual pieces by Francis Alÿs, quasi-mystical sculptures by Jimmie Durham, monochromes by Massimo Bartolini, and delicate wood pieces by Fernanda Gomes. It’s curated by sculptor Richard Wentworth, and a selection of his photographs is shown near the front of the gallery. There’s also some photos by Brassai and a copy of Minotaure (1933-39), both of which add a kind of framework for the show: these images are excerpts of daily life’s anthology of sights. NOAH DILLON
