Rei Kawakubo / Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between, through September 4
On a par with the couture it showcases, the mis en scene of Rei Kawakubo / Comme des Garçons at the Met’s Costume Institute is a tour de force of installation art. The work of Ms. Rei herself, and evocative of her highly theatrical stores, the stacked structures, exposed ceilings and pod or cave-like apertures in which her creations are clustered manage, like her classic yet audacious tailoring, to combine primary shapes and deconstructive maneuvers. And the wigged mannequins are pretty extraordinary, too. DAVID COHEN
