M. David & Co (the gallery that anchors 56 Bogart Street in Bushwick and that has traded in years past as Life of Mars and Schweitzer and David) now has a tradition of staging two-week intensive residency programs in their space. Artist and curator Michael David leads the program, with invited critics providing additional feedback to the participating group. In addition, Mr. David presents short exhibitions of selected artists. Claire Chambless, who was raised in Atlanta, GA and is currently pursuing her MFA at CalArts in Los Angeles, writes with cryptic simplicity of her work, simply stating that “My sculptures are assemblages that combine found with handmade objects and traditional building materials, such as plywood and concrete, to think about how individuals and groups relate to and mutually influence each other.”
