Yevgeniy Fiks’s ominous and ironic take on Cold War paranoia is a project that places mushroom cloud effigies at legendary Washington DC cruising spots of the 1950s when the McCarthyite rhetoric of the day was proclaiming that “Homosexuality is Stalin’s atom bomb to destroy America.” Fiks was Winkleman Gallery’s show at the time of Hurricane Sandy which brought doomsday up to date. Now he is featured at SEVEN, the art fair in which that number of galleries pool their artists to create a kunsthalle-like reprieve from the booth-viewing conditions of Miami.
SEVEN continues at 2200 NW Second Avenue in Miami’s Wynwood Arts District, Saturday 11 am to 7 pm, Sunday 11 am to 5 pm
