Featured item from THE LIST: Charles Spurrier at 490 Atlantic Gallery

Charles Spurrier considers “Other Than Ordinary Miracles” (2016) a painting, convincingly, although it is made entirely from found plastic and a readymade steel shelving unit which juts a foot off the wall. With resolute Cartesian deadpan, Spurrier has amputated latticed milk crates and other structural plastic into orthogonals of saturated color, with which he deftly fills out the shelf’s primary structure. From head on, a Boogie-Woogie grid of dense industrial hues; to the side, a transfixing and profound extrusion of pure color sensation. DAVID BRODY
